New Delhi: The National Democratic Alliance is leading on 61 seats in Uttar Pradesh while the Samajwadi Party-Bahujan Samaj Party alliance is ahead on 18 seats. Meanwhile, Congress is leading on one seat which is Raebareli.
Samajwadi Party has ordered all the spokesperson to not participate in TV debates and has summoned them to party headquarter in Lucknow.Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav is leading by 108929 votes from Azamgarh while his father and SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav is leading from Mainpuri by 151752 votes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading from Varanasi constituency by 326029 votes while Samajwadi Party's Shalini Yadav is on the second position by 101429 votes followed by Congress' Ajay Rai who is on the third position by 68252 votes.
All eyes are on heavyweight battles in Uttar Pradesh that will set the course of the political future of the country in the next five years. Uttar Pradesh, with its 80 parliamentary (Lok Sabha) seats, plays a pivotal role in the formation of the government at the centre. The most populous state of India is also its most politically important state. By winning 71 seats out of 80, the Modi juggernaut in 2014 had decimated the Congress, the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party.
As many as eight prime ministers of India (including Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Rajiv Gandhi, VP Singh, Charan Singh, Chandra Shekhar) drew political life from Uttar Pradesh. To add to its importance, the current PM of India - Narendra Modi too went on to assume the office of the Prime Minister by winning the Lok Sabha seat of Varanasi in UP.
