The world's largest passenger plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Manchester Airport

The Airbus A380 was headed for New York from Abu Dhabi, but was forced to make a sudden diversion after a medical emergency

    One of the world's largest passenger planes was forced to make a emergency landing at Manchester Airport after a medical emergency onboard.Witnesses reported seeing ambulances waiting on the runway for the superjumbo - the world's largest passenger plane  - to land.

    After the passenger was treated the flight, which had 474 passengers onboard, carried on New York
    The Airbus A380 was bound for New York from Abu Dhabi yesterday.

    But when a passenger fell ill as it was flying over the north Atlantic west of Iceland, it was forced to turn back towards the United Kingdom.
    Flight tracking website FlightRadar24 shows the Etihad Airways flight performing a u-turn about 11 hours into the journey before heading to Manchester Airport, where it landed at about 7pm UK time.
    It landed at JFK about six hours behind schedule.
    An Etihad spokesperson said: "Etihad Airways flight EY101 from Abu Dhabi to New York has diverted to Manchester due to a guest on board requiring immediate medical treatment.

    After the passenger was given treatment the Etihad Airways flight continued on to New York

    "We regret any inconvenience caused by this diversion.
    "The safety of our guests and crew is Etihad Airways’ highest priority."
